For the past seven seasons the Ottawa Fury have evolved into one of the top teams in the PDL. Over the past four seasons alone the Fury are one of the top-five teams in the PDL owning a record of 36-13-15 which includes a dominant 22-2-8 record at the friendly confines of the Algonquin College Soccer Complex. With a desire to win it all every season, the Fury have had the luxury of gaining interest from some of the top developing players from around the world. In their seven year the Fury boast an all-time record of 55-34-23 amassing 225 goals during the seasons while surrendering only 145. The Fury have also captured back-to-back Division Titles in 2009 and 2010.

The Fury was awarded a PDL expansion franchise in October of 2004 to begin play in the 2005 PDL season. The Fury would play out of the Northeast Division against Albany, Brooklyn, Cape Cod, Reading, Rhode Island, Ocean City, Vermont and Westchester – many of who have become familiar foes to the Fury since their inaugural season. Colin McCurdy was named the team’s first head coach who bolstered a line-up with plenty of local talent. The Fury finished 3rd in their division with an impressive 9-7-0 record – certainly something to build upon for their second season.

Year two featured many familiar faces and continued to bolster some strong local talent. The season finished far too early for the 2nd year team as a 1-5-3 start could not be erased despite finishing the season 6-2-0. The Fury finished second in their division, but their disastrous start was unforgiving as they were unable to catch an Eastern Conference wild card position.

The 2007 saw some British flavour injected into the roster and a coaching change as Colin McCurdy gave way to Chris Roth. Roth had one goal in mind – make the playoffs! The Fury were 2-2-3 out of the gate, but finished a dismal 3-8-5 well out of a playoff spot. One bright spot was that the Club’s defense continued to improve having only conceded 21 goals over 16 games, problem was they were only able to notch 17 of their own throughout the season.

2008 began with renewed optimism under the infectious enthusiasm of newly appointed head coach Stephen O’Kane. O’Kane brought with him a winning culture leading the Algonquin College Thunder to a National Championship in 2006 as well as numerous successes as a head coach in the Fury Youth program including a bronze medal at the prestigious Foyle Cup in Northern Ireland and leading the U17 Boys to the SYL North American Finals, both in 2007. After stumbling out of the gate early with a 3-3-0 start the Fury went into the final game of the season having gone 6-0-3 down the stretch needing a single point to earn their first-ever playoff berth. The Voltage would get the last laugh handing the Fury a 3-0 defeat and then the Voltage lost to Cape Cod the following day to eliminate the Fury from playoff contention. Despite sitting even with Newark in points, the Ironbound Express advanced thanks to their 3-0 victory over the Fury in the second game of the season. Year 2 under Stephen O'Kane proved that the Fury were a force to be reckoned with in the PDL right from the opening kick-off to the season. O'Kane led the Fury three firsts in 2009: their first-ever unbeaten season (12-0-4), their first-ever Divsion Title and their first-ever playoff berth. The Fury lead the league in defence that year and also earned the right to host the opening round of the playoffs. Before a capacity crowd (1,300+) at the Algonquin College Soccer Complex the Fury and Ocean City Baron battle for 120 minutes that saw the visitors prevail 2-1 in extra-time. O'Kane would step aside as head coach at the conclusion of the season due to illnesses in his immediate family.

It would be a tall order to replace Stephen O'Kane, but the Fury were able to land former Vancouver Whitecaps Head Coach and Canadian International striker Carl Valentine. A man with tremendous coaching experience brought a different coaching philiosphy, but produced the same winning results. Ottawa would again win their division with an 11-2-3 record and again prove to be one of the top defensive teams in the league. The Fury would again host the opening round of the playoffs and after defeating the Ironbound Express in the Semifinals, they fell to Reading United 3-2 in the Conference Championship dashing their hopes of a lengthy playoff run. At the end of the season the Fury would lose Valentine as head coach as he re-joined the MLS-bound Vancouver Whitecaps.

The Fury would take a step backwards in 2011. Steve Payne was named Valentine's replacement and had to assemble a completely new roster of players with many other players from years prior moving elsewhere in their soccer carrers. Payne would only last three games as head coach and was relieved by assistant Klaus Linnenbruegger for the duration of the PDL season. Linnenbruegger was able to get the team back on track, but the poor early season start proved far too costly.

Following the end of the 2011 season former Fury PDL Head Coach Stephen O'Kane was approached about returning and has accepted the job to return as head coach. The Fury will look to rebound in 2012 under O'Kane who boasts an impressive 21-4-7 record as coach in the PDL.
